I just unshared a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from the oppo mainpage because the context was absolutely lost in the share. All that was displayed was "They don't It's clickbait" , which without any context whatsoever, is a meaningless statement.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

So, I unshared the comment from Oppo. Not because the conversation is not interesting, but because the share was, for lack of a better word, noise.

This is part of what we need to pay attention to when we are sharing comments, is how they will be displayed. Will the context be clear? Does the displayed text / image stand alone as a post? If not, please don't share them.

My bad, I didn't realize that only the first line would come up. It was a really awesome comment though.

I was tempted to re-share this to Oppo to be funny, but I prefer this message being taken seriously.

It was. It absolutely was a great comment. Which was part of why I chose to use this post as an example. I wanted to feature that even though the comment itself was brilliant, that what is displayed here, unfortunately sucks. =)

Just kidding, with no context it does make it hard to see but at least Racescort wasn't sharing his own comment

with no context, the comment itself becomes clickbait.

I'm not sure I've ever understood the point of sharing a comment in the first place. The last time I clicked on a "shared" comment, I ended up on some other Gawker Media site.

Shared comments is a good thing if you ask me, the only time I ever visit the FP is when someone shares a good/great comment. As for Gawker Media.. weeell.. ain't you already on a gawker media site son? :)

I was some video game site or something and it had nothing to do with cars at all. It wasn't a big deal. I just didn't understand why there was a comment shared from there to here.

it was a great comment, and worthy of oppo, but the context it was presented it was poor. Sharing in general is poor in my opinion because all it does is provide a lazy, incomplete and contextually barren path to sharing good content where a mechanism for that already exists in a new post. Just my 2 cents.

So what you're saying is that the content of the share doesn't matter, it's how it displays? Seems backwards to me.

So he should have made a new post with a link and wrote a title and lead, bypassing a built in feature of kinja just because some people don't want to scroll a couple of more pixels down the page?

I'm (easily) confused.

I'm saying that both should be present. It should make sense and be meaningful on its own. (Funny, intelligent, awesome, but on its own without additional context, or with enough implied context that the average opponaut would want to read the rest.)

The thing to do is link to it in another post that you, I don't know, *write*. That way you can provide some context beyond the first 5 words or so on the first line only.

That might make things interesting... :)
